The Floods of 2008 may be out of mind for most Iowans – but for many Iowa business owners—recovering their businesses and increasing their cash flow continue to be top priorities.
More than 86 Iowa counties were declared disaster areas by Governor Chet Culver after the June flooding. Small businesses, homes and farms alike all suffered substantial water damage. However, many Iowa experts argue that it wasn’t only businesses physically flooded by the waters that sustained damage.

The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center has been named a finalist for a U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration award. The center at North Iowa Area Community College is a finalist for the EDA Excellence in Economic Development Awards.

All entrepreneurs and business owners who were affected by the 2008 flood are encouraged to submit their applications to receive funding. It is now time to take advantage of the $1 million fund before the financial assistance runs out. State, federal and local government agencies and associations have come together to coordinate efforts to assist the businesses impacted by the recent disasters in Iowa. There are three primary programs that the team is developing that will be offered to the business community soon.
There are three programs to the current plan: Back-to-Business Workshop,Business Recovery Center and Business Resources List. A list of online resources will be made available at www.flood2008.iowa.gov.
