Sales & Use Tax Seminar

Plan now to attend one of the four sales and use tax seminars to be held in Iowa in August 2010. This seminar qualifies for 6 continuing education units for tax professionals and is taught by tax professionals of the Iowa Department of Revenue.

This seminar is for the accounting professional. Basic concepts are covered with more in-depth discussion of exemptions for manufacturing and processing, computers, and agricultural production.
 
Topics include:
  • Defining "sales" and "use" taxes
  • Types of permits issued and when each is needed
  • What is subject to sales and use taxes
  • Detailed discussion of common exemptions and use of exemption certificates
  • When and if local option tax applies
  • Using the IDR Tax Research Library
  • Obtaining assistance from the Department on technical issues
  • Resources available for assistance
